7 Wonders of Akwa ibom – My Experience

Akwa Ibom , located in the Southern part of Nigeria, is fondly known for their mouthwatering Nigerian delicacies like Afang soup,  Atama and their popular fishing trade. Before now, I really did not know there was more to explore in Awka Ibom until I traveled there and experienced the beautiful City of Uyo for myself! Sit back, relax, and let these words give you your best travel “imagination experience”. 🙂

  1. Great Landscapes:

Most part of it is well maintained to serve as a form of beautification for the city (you would see more of it in my YouTube video), while other parts are filled with massive vegetation & landed properties waiting to be discovered by investors like yourself.  But sincerely, if you are searching for vast amount of land to construct a building for your business or housing estates or vegetation, Akwa Ibom has lots of that.

  1. Watching the sunset at the Lagoon:

There are very few states in Nigeria where you can take great pictures at the beach side or Lagoon, and Akwa Ibom is one of them. The sight was absolutely beautiful, while thinking of a million and one ways to take a good picture for Instagram, I sat down on a bunker, watching the sun set, listening to the melody of the water as it moves with the waves of the wind. When you get to Akwa Ibom, this should definitely be on your to-do-list.

  1. Go hiking on The Largest Golf course in West Africa:

I was has alarmed as you are when I was told. After witnessing the golf course located in Ibom Hotel, I kept wondering to myself – if it was possible for someone to go round the golf course in a day, my conclusion was that it isn’t possible – at least not by leg, unless you have the strength. But If you love hiking, the golf course has a mountain where you can view the whole city of Uyo from the top, it also has a romantic feel at night, mostly because of the scene environment and the lights in the city shinning in the darkness through your eyes.

  1. AkwaIbom Has Colonial history & Heritage Sites:

Not so far from the Amalgamation house is the bridge of no return, this is where jetties built in 1795 were used by the Europeans for the purpose of conveying slaves into waiting ships. And it is called the bridge of no return because once a slave stepped on it, they were not allowed to look back, and they never returned, but today, the case is different, I mean, I returned back to Lagos! Lol!

  1. Beautiful Hotels & Resort:

Apart from the beautiful landscapes of the city, one of the major highlights of my stay in Uyo (capital of Akwa Ibom), was the hotel myself and my travel group lodged in. Even though, I would write a detailed review of the hotel in (ANOTHER POST), this post would the incomplete if I do not mention “Ibom hotels & Golf resort” as one of the 7 wonders of Akwa Ibom. Ibom Hotel is a 5 star hotel with the largest golf resort in West Africa, and this is all I would say for now, I do not want to spill too much before I release the detailed review of the hotel. But trust me, the hotel is worth every penny of your money if you are looking out for the best of the best in everything a hotel and a resort has to offer.

  1. Serenity:

Do you stay in a city with so much stress and drama, while struggling to put your life together? Akwa Ibom is one of the states I can easily recommend to you as a go-to state for a 1 – 2 weeks holiday for peace of mind. You’d find out that the state has little or no crime rate with very friendly indigenes and affordable standard of living.

  1. Good roads:

Did I mention the city has a good road network with no pot holes?! Well I just did! And we need more of this across all states in Nigeria. I mean travelling inter-state by road would be a lot easier and there would be a massive reduction of road accidents.

Have I convinced you enough that Akwa Ibom is worth visiting through my experience? Stay tuned for more, and watch out for the full video version!
