On this episode, I spoke with Ajala Nene, and I have featured her severally on my site, click here to read my previous post of her. Below are the 6 things we highlighted, that needs to be improved in Lagos State tourism;

Sanitation:

Honestly, as I said in THIS PREVIOUS POST, Lagos is a beautiful city, but it could be better. Nene raised a point saying that Lagos State should return back to the tradition of “the monthly sanitation day” we used to have to encourage Lagosians to clean our surroundings once a month.

Especially in the rainy season like this where the rain sweeps all dirt into the gutter and gets it clogged thereby stopping the flow of water and causing water stagnation which then begins to breed mosquitoes and other flies that causes sickness.

It is fundamental that we take care of our surroundings and make if more beautiful if we want to attract foreign tourist. This means that we civilians should not liter our surroundings also.

2. Road transportation:

  1. It is not news that Lagos Traffic is the worst, this is mostly because Lagos is congested, and there are so many tankers on the road that cause traffic, either by spoiling the road itself or just being too many on the road. The solution raised was to de-congest tankers on Lagos roads or regulate the roads they ply on and the hours they move on the road.The other solution is to repair all spoilt roads in Lagos, and make it tourist friendly. We should use Dubai as a case study when thinking of development, I have spoken a lot about it in my previous posts, CLICK HERE to read more.

3. Train system:

In my opinion, having a train system that works would not only reduce traffic on the main road, it would solve the problem of high cost of transportation within and outside Lagos.

Having a good train that works would also be a plus to other tourist that would either want to experience Lagos on a train, or get a cheaper form of transportation, of run away from Lagos Traffic.

4. Water transportation:

Amongst all the tourist attractions Lagos has (CLICK HERE), her biggest selling point it water! Lagos is blessed with enormous amount of water and this has been underutilized as a state. We should have a boat taxi, boat cruise, boat competition, so many things can be done to better harness the water Lagos is blessed with to increase tourism in Lagos, just imagine we host the largest boat competition/festival in Africa. This would encourage other African countries to come to Lagos to participate in the competition, and this would reduce traffic on water.

5. Tourism promotion:

Lagos State, and Nigeria as a whole needs to invest more financially on Tourism promotion. Dubai and South Africa are both testimonies of tourism promotion, because right here in Nigeria I hear their promotions on radio and see a few on YouTube, and statistics shows that Nigerians are the most frequent visitors to Dubai.
