The second edition of Art X Lagos started last week Wednesday, on the 3rd of November 2017 to Sunday, 5th of November 2017. Art X Lagos was founded by Tokini Peterside.

It is the first international art fair in West Africa, and it is a platform given to contemporary artists in Nigeria and across Africa to exhibit their art works to art lovers, collectors, and enthusiasts.

I was able to make it on second day of the event, since I already blogged about it in – the event near me today in November post.

Here are the 5 things you should know about the event if you did not attend or if you are planning to come for next year’s edition-

  1. Gate fee:

You have to pay ₦1,000 to gain access to the exhibition area.

The thing is, I applied for the Art X tickets online, and I was sent the tickets as an attachment to my mail (as many of you were) which I believed was supposed to serve as a gate pass.

Imagine my surprise when I got there and I was told to pay ₦1,000 to gain entrance. I was not expecting that, infact when I got there I went to the line like a boss with my ticket opened on my phone waiting for my turn to show the coordinators my tickets, only to be told that I had to pay.

After asking why this was not properly communicated, I was told that it was written on the tickets that was sent to us which I later saw. The truth is I really didn’t go through the details of my tickets when I got it, no wonder they say – if you want to hide something from a black man, put it in a book. Ouch*

2.    Crowd:

Day two was too crowded! I cannot speak for the other days because I was not present, but I met a few people I know there who said the place wasn’t as crowded earlier in the day, because they came earlier than I did. But I guess the crowd means the program was a success. 🙂

3.   Live paint:

There were live painting sessions done by some exhibitors, which was really cool.

4.    Video Room:

There was this video room that displayed black history or so. The truth is, I was not able to stay too long in the video room because I discovered it just when I was about leaving, and I was in a rush. But you would see it in the video above.

5.    Art Works:

There were beautiful art works made of coins, Dunlop slippers, Paper-Mache, newspapers, plastics, and so many other creative items, some of which costs between ₦1,000,000 – ₦20,000,000 and more. While approaching the building, I noticed a bus was parked in front for everyone and anyone to get draw on, and get creative. It was a beautiful event, and I am happy I went, I wish I had been present on all the days.

Like I said in the video, I think Art X shut Lagos Island down, because the traffic to and from the event was serious.

And, as advertised on Instagram, there were other activities like – Live performances by Nigerian artists, prize giving, and there were some private rooms or private sessions for VIPS (one day we would have access to this kind of sessions in Jesus Name!) lol.

Thank you so much Fisayo! It was such an interesting review. I personally really wish I made it to the event on Saturday. But the rain that started on the mainland didn’t allow me to be great ??? Would make proper preparations to attend next year. Meanwhile good job on the article! ?
