There is nothing as fun as being adventurous! I planned to visit at 3 to 7 galleries on Lagos Island in one day! I went on this adventurous journey with Uche. We were able to visit only three galleries because we started our journey late, and some these art galleries do close early.

However, we made the best use of the short time, in fact, I designed a journey plan for us to use for our tour, that’s to show you how serious I took it.

Before I chose these galleries, I asked a friend of mine for art galleries he knows in Lagos, he referred this site to me (HotelsNg). One of the reasons why I decided to visit these galleries before blogging about them was because I wanted to give you first hand information, having been to these places myself.

Also, in the bid to promote art and culture in Nigeria, it is best I visit these places and show the world what we have got! So, here goes my review on the ART TOUR experience, the video above will give you visuals as to some of my descriptions.

  1. Terra Culture:

Our first visit was to “Terra Culture”. This is located in Victoria Island’s business district, right next to DSTV head office. What I particularly like about Terra Culture is the wooden interior of the restaurant, which gives it an African feel, and when approaching the Art Gallery you come across the restaurant first. The sad part is that the gallery was hot, and the air conditioners were off, which is definitely not right, especially in an art gallery. But I was told they were trying to conserve energy since they had few visitors coming around that day.

For Artists:

We asked the attendant how artist submit their works for display, he mentioned that all artist send their work to gallery@terrakulture.com for consideration, and if found suitable, the artist would be contacted.

For Art Collectors/Buyers:

Good news! Their artworks are open to negotiation!

Opening hour: 9:30 Closing Hour: 12am

         2. Red Door Gallery:

When I saw the picture of this gallery online, I purposed in my heart that I was going to visit this place. And my experience at this gallery was the highlight of my day. Initially, we thought it was closed because the gate seem locked, which was already making me sad, but luckily, it wasn’t!

A really cool intern named Omotayo attended us to, and she walked us through each art piece, describing the name of the artist and the concept, and she made us feel welcomed. We definitely left there with a good impression about the gallery and with the desire to go back there for another visit some day, hopefully to buy art this time, lool!Art, art and culture, culture, artist, art enthusiast, art collections, best blogs in Nigeria, Best art in Nigeria, Best art in the world, Nike art gallery, lifestyle, travels, travel blogs, lifestyle blog, blog, top blogs in Nigeria

Apart from the art on display for sale, the gallery had really cool vintage collections, some of which are over 100 years old. The items are shown in the video above. I loved every minute I was here, because it was really comfortable, and the environment had the right temperature.

The art collections were fabulous, and they are from renowned artist in Nigeria, so you do not expect them to be cheap.

      3. Art 21:

I feel like Art 21 is well known, because on Instagram I see people taking pictures at the gallery, which was one of the major reasons why I decided to add the gallery to my list. The gallery was beautiful, large and spacious, and all the art collections in the gallery are owned by one person- Olu Amoda. We were told he had an agreement with the hotel for the season that his art works would be on display.

Although, upon entrance, we were made to feel like we were not welcomed there, and as you can tell, we didn’t spend much time there.

Location: Eko hotel & Suites, 1415 Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Kuramo Waters, Victoria Island. Opening hour: 11:00 Closing Hour: 7:00pm

And that sums up our Art tour for the day! I really wished we could visit Nike art gallery this day, but time had gone. It’s a good thing my art tour still continues.

It was at this moment, a girl knew that she was hungry. 🙂

I was too hungry to remember to take picture of the food at the beginning.
